David joined the WSET in 1996 and in 1998 became Principal of the WSET School.

Before coming to the WSET David spent 25 years working with wine shippers and importers, H Sichel and Sons Ltd. where he was involved in selling to the North East of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.  As purchasing director he became closely involved with the wines of Germany and France having worked in both Mainz and Bordeaux for a period.  He also looked after the company's wine education programme.

David's other interests include classical music, especially opera, and family.  Occasionally these interest can clash as he tries to listen to Wagner when the children have their own musical agenda!
