WSET Awards of Excellence - Advanced 2009 Winners

Level 3 Advanced Certificate in Wines and Spirits Scholarships

The top 30 students who have achieved either a Pass with Distinction or Pass with Merit are invited to the Advanced Certificate Scholarship Competition which takes place every November.  They are required to verbally answer questions on 9 different wine/spirit regions as well as a blind tasting.

The David Burroughs Scholarship Sponsored by the WSET and named in memory of the Trust's first Chief Executive.  A place on a WSET study tour to a major wine or spirit producing region. Winner: Gavin Monery (Roberson Wine Merchants) Unable to attend

	The Vintners' Bursaries Three bursaries, sponsored by The Vintners' Company, used towards the cost of a foreign study tour. Winners: Victoria Burt (Majestic), Alexandra Tilling (Novum Wines) & Monica Callinan   Presented by: Sam Dow (Master of the Vintners' Co.)
	The Oddbins Scholarship A place on a WSET study tour to a major wine or spirit producing region. Winner: Emma Shaw (Oddbins) Presented by: Simon Baile (Oddbins)
	The Cálem Port Award A study tour to the Douro as a guest of AA Cálem & Filho SA. Winner: Justin Martindale (Majestic) Presented by: Michael Broadbent MW
	The Champagne Academy Scholarship A place on the Champagne Academy study course. Winner: Donald Mackenzie (Majestic) Presented by: Steve Winchcombe (Chairman of the Champagne Academy)
	The Ochoa Scholarship A study trip to Navarra and a case of Navarra wine. Winner: Hannah Page Presented by: Nick Tatham (Pol Roger)
	The Porter & Laker Prize £850 contribution towards fees for candidate intending to enrol on WSET Diploma course and £350 towards corporate memership of the Benevolent. Winner: Charlotte West (Relish PR) Presented by:  Chris Porter (Porter & Laker) & Cheng Loo (The Benevolent Society)
	United Kingdom Vineyards Association Prize A programme of events organised throughout the vineyard year: seasonal visits to appropriate English Vineyards, an invitation to the National Competition and the November Symposium plus a case of English Wine. Winner: Samantha Jackson (Scatchards) Presented by: Roger Marchbank (UK Vineyard Association)
	The Incorporation of Coopers of Glasgow Scholarship A visit to a cooperage in Glasgow and a whisky tasting session. Winner: Joanna Cugley (PLB Group) Presented by:  Richard Paterson (Whyte & Mackay)
	The Rhône Prize A silver-plated wine cooler, held by the winner for a year, and a case of Rhône wines selected by Hallgarten Wines. Winner: Jonathan Leadley (Majestic) Presented by: John Cunynghame (Hallgarten Druitt)
	Decanter Magazine Prizes One year's subscription to Decanter magazine and an invitation to the Fine Wine Experience. Winners: Mark McDonald, Jane Sheilds & Adam Dent (non-trade) Presented by: Sophia Dempsey (Decanter)
