Wine and sake: what’s the difference?

Wine and sake are two important global beverages which are very different in terms of their production. As a starting point: wine is made from grapes and sake is made from rice. However, when it comes to tasting, there are many similarities as well as differences.

In this comparative tasting, wine and sake expert Shane Jones DipWSET will talk you through two pairs of wines and sake that have something in common – whether that’s the production method, ageing style, or flavour profile.

Come along if you’re a wine professional interested in developing and transferring your skills into another category. If you haven’t tasted sake before, we’re confident you’ll leave this session wanting to try more!

Blind tasting: France vs the world

Many wine drinkers believe France to be home to the world’s finest wines. This is not surprising considering that wines from Champagne, Burgundy and Bordeaux attract the most investors, command the top prices and seem to hold the highest status. But is it time to shift this perspective?

Join Anjali Douglas DipWSET for a blind tasting of two pairs of wines. In each duo, one wine will be from a premium French region and the other will be a top quality example from a region somewhere else in the world. Your job will be to figure out which is which...
Come along to test your blind tasting abilities, challenge your preconceptions, or simply try some incredible wines.

Interpreting tasting notes with WSET

A tasting note doesn’t only tell you about the flavour of a wine. It can also provide valuable insights into viticulture and vinification – if you know how to decode it.

During this session, WSET School London educators Richard Lane DipWSET and Ed Wicks DipWSET will lead you through a tasting of four wines. You’ll discover what you can learn about a wine from your tasting note – including the climate, region, production methods and quality level.

At WSET School London, we teach you to taste in a logical, systematic, and professional manner. You're introduced to the WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting (SAT), which is specifically designed to build your skills progressively as you move through the different qualification levels.

This is a great opportunity for any students who have completed the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines to get an understanding of what is required at Level 3. Our educators will explain how your tasting skills are developed in the WSET Level 3 Award in Wines and show you that there’s no need to fear tasting exams.
