WSET's Tasting Room takeover

WSET will be hosting another Tasting Room takeover on Monday 1st and Tuesday 2nd July at Imbibe Live 2024 where we’ll be joined by industry experts to explore intriguing orange wine, delve into tequila additives, get technical about beer ON-flavours and unpack the intricacies of whiskey production.

Join in on one of these sessions to enjoy some fantastic samples and get a taster of what you could learn through WSET’s globally-recognised qualifications.

Skin contact: Exploring orange wine

Monday 1 July: 13.00-13.45

You’d be forgiven for thinking orange wine is a relatively new creation, popping up on wine lists across the UK in recent years. In fact the production of orange wine dates back 5,000 years, even predating white wine.
This ‘new’ category can be confusing. Should it look orange? Is it made with oranges? How is it different from other wines?
Join Wine Educator Anjali Douglas DipWSET and Emily Jago to find out about this exciting style, and bust some myths along the way. You’ll find out about the long history of orange wine, taste a variety of styles, and explore all things orange wine and food.

Tequila: The low-down on additives

Monday 1 July: 14.15-15.00

The growth of the Agave spirits category is well known, and 100% Agave versions dominate that growth in the US, UK and Europe. The spotlight is now turning to additives in Tequila, with bartenders and consumers asking, what can be added? How much can be added? And does it really matter?
Join WSET Spirits Educator Rose Brookman, and Adam Wilson, UK Brand Ambassador of additive-free, family-estate Tequila brand, Cazcabel to explore these questions. Taste a range of products using WSET’s Systematic Approach to Tasting (SAT) to help determine the facts of this clandestine aspect of Tequila production.

Beer ON-flavours: Build your flavour vocabulary and become a better beer taster

Tuesday 2 July: 13.00-13.45

Does hazy IPA really smell like mango or is it all in our head? In this interactive session, Natalya Watson, WSET Beer Educator brings WSET’s beer lexicon to life.
Instead of focusing on off-flavours, those we don’t want to find in beer, Natalya will introduce you to a range of “on-flavours” by using foods, fruits, herbs and spices that represent a range of the malt-, yeast-, and hop-driven aromas we do want to find in beer.
Once you’re confident with what each of these different aromas smells like, you’ll then put your skills to the test – tasting beers that feature these flavours to see how well you can detect and describe them.
Learn more about WSET’s new beer qualifications, discover which level is best for you and become a better beer taster, one aroma at a time.
