Monday 8 March 2021 is International Women’s Day! To celebrate women's achievements across the global wine industry, WSET School London educator and Master of Wine Michelle Cherutti-Kowal MW will interview fellow Master of Wine Almudena Alberca MWAlmudena is the first woman in Spain to achieve the title Master of Wine and is currently Technical Director at Grupo Bodegas Palacio 1894 where she manages the winemaking, specialising in crafting premium wines across northwestern Spain. This webinar will showcase her expertise and experience in all things vinification, providing educational insight into winemaking while also celebrating her achievements. 

Almudena Alberca MW 

Almudena Alberca is the first woman in Spain to achieve the title of Master of Wine, gaining the title  in 2018. After graduating in agriculture engineering, she continued her studies gaining a degree in oenology and a master in viticulture. Her first harvest was in New Zealand at Vidal Estate, part of the Villa Maria group. Since then she has travelled extensively through wine producing regions worldwide. Almudena began her career producing boutique wines in Viñas de Cenit, in Zamora, Spain, where she went from assistant winemaker to managing the entire winery. She worked at Dominio de Atauta in Ribera del Duero where she played an integral role in shaping their wine styles and achieving international success. During this time, she was also the Spanish specialist for importer AvivaVino in New York, selecting and blending wines for this market. Almudena became technical director at Viña Mayor in 2015, before her current role as technical director at Grupo Bodegas Palacios 1894 and also Brand Ambassador for Spain for wine investment firm Oeno.

Michelle is a dual Italian/Canadian citizen who left behind the Toronto finance world to build an enviable career as a freelance wine educator, speaker and consultant in London. An established figure in the global wine trade, Michelle teaches WSET qualification courses, judges international wine competitions and presents tastings and masterclasses all over the world. Michelle teaches all levels of qualification at WSET School London, with a particular focus on the Level 4 Diploma. Michelle's specialist-level knowledge and engaging teaching style have made her one of the UK's most sought-after wine educators.
