In the final panel talk of our online Career talk series, we’re looking at roles in branding, marketing and communication in the UK. We’ll be discussing the different roles and the career options available to people in wanting to get into this exciting and demanding sector of the drinks trade.

Hosted by WSET Regional Marketing Manager Lucy Stevenson DipWSET, our panel of speakers will give an overview of the many and varied roles that are involved in the marketing sector in the UK. They’ll discuss their own positions and other roles they work closely alongside, and tell us how they got to where they are today. They’ll also explore the attributes and training needed to be successful, as well as where to start if you are keen to enter this area of the industry.

Lucy is WSET's Regional Marketing Manager for the EMEA region, responsible for the promotion of WSET qualifications across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India. She is also a WSET Certified Educator teaching wine qualifications at Levels 1-4, specialising in fortified wines on the Diploma. She loves the blend of classroom and desk time that her job offers her, and feels very fortunate to be able to spend time with WSET students, learning about their passions and goals.

Tom Harvey

Having developed a passion for the drinks industry both personally and professionally via a career in marketing and advertising, Tom Harvey launched YesMore Agency with co-founder Dan Hooper. They grew a team of experts in social media, content creation, paid social and influencer marketing around them and have since been delivering industry-leading online campaigns for brands such as Aperol Spritz, Black Tower, Ramsbury Distillery, Ridgeview Wine, Cambridge Distillery and more.

YesMore operates from both the UK and US, and is on a mission to improve society's relationship with alcohol via the power of marketing and a focus on mental health through its work with leading brands and consultancy work for the Portman Group.

Tom has also spoken at London Wine Week, Low2No Bev, Mental Health Awareness Week and been featured in a range of leading drinks industry press such as Drinks Retailing News, Drinks Business, Just Drinks, FAB News and The Grocer.

Nicky Forrest DipWSET

Managing Director, Phipps

Nicky Forrest

Nicky is one of the leading communicators in the drinks industry. She is the managing director at Phipps Relations and also the head of Wines of Germany in the UK. She is a WSET Diploma graduate and is the communications lecturer at the WSET BACK course every year. She has recently been appointed as a trustee of the Drinks Trust and is also a Vintner. She has a micro vineyard in Kent.

Louise McGuane

Founder and Maker, J.J. Corry Irish Whiskey

Louise McGuane left Ireland in 1995 and went on to pursue an international career in the luxury drinks industry while living and working in New York, Paris, London and Singapore. She worked for LVMH, Pernod Ricard and Diageo. She returned home in 2016 to found J.J. Corry Irish Whiskey on her family farm back in Cooraclare. Louise brought back the lost art of Irish Whiskey Bonding, and became the first whiskey bonder in Ireland in over 50 years. She matures and blends award-winning whiskies that are now exported all over the world. She is Ireland's only solo female founder in the Irish whiskey industry.
