Sample the best of the WSET School London cellars as we dust off old and rare bottles from across the world.
Event details
Join us for an intimate tasting of one-of-a-kind wines. We've journeyed deep into our cellars under Bermondsey Street and pulled out the best bottles of world-beating wine for you to try.
Hosted by one of our educators, you'll sample a flight of six wines, with each bottle a different shade of old, iconic and idiosyncratic. You'll learn about the history of each glass and pick up tips on how to store and serve well-aged wine.
Enjoy your wines alongside a large selection of raw milk cheese, artisan charcuterie and other delicious fine foods provided by Provisions London.
Spaces are limited so book soon to avoid disappointment. This tasting will take place seated on comfortable bar stools around the long table of our Diploma Suite.
Example wine list
- Perrier Jouet - Belle Epoque 2011
Adorned with hand-painted Japanese white anemones and originally designed by Emile Gallé, this iconic bottle captures the elegance of the era for which it is named.
- SA Prüm - Wehlener Sonnenuhr Grosses Gewachs 2011
The precipitous slopes of the “sundial” vineyard in the heart of the Mosel Valley sets the benchmark for Riesling the world over, producing extraordinarily age-worthy white wine.
- Bruno Clair - Chambolle-Musigny 'Les Veroilles' 2009
While Chambolle-Musigny may lack the star power of some villages, this commune of the Côte de Nuits produces some of Burgundy’s most perfumed expressions of Pinot Noir.
- Craggy Range - Sophia 2009
New Zealand’s Bordeaux-blends are something of a sleeper hit and this prestige cuvee shows off the complexity and longevity that can be achieved on the Gimblett Gravels of the country’s North Island.
- Mount Langi Ghiran - Langi Shiraz 2005
Far from the chocolatey richness of most Aussie Shiraz, Mount Langi Ghiran, based in Victoria’s Grampian mountains, produces herbal, delicate wine that will be a revelation for fans of cool-climate Syrah.
- Domaine Huet – Vouvray ‘Le Mont’ Moelleux 1996
Gaston Huet earned his title as the “grandfather of Vouvray” by producing honeyed Chenin Blanc with almost unbelievable freshness. His wines are known to be long lived and this 25-year-old bottle will be in its prime.
About the presenter, Sam Povey
Sam Povey is a wine educator from Aberdeen, Scotland. He first discovered his interest in wine at university and pursued it by travelling to Georgia and his local wine shop. Before joining the industry, he was an economics tutor but fell into wine when he took a job behind the bar at an urban winery. He then moved into wine and food retail in north London: managing wine lists, hosting tastings and training staff. Today, he teaches the WSET Levels 1-2 Awards in Wines and hosts events at WSET School London.
