While Portugal is synonymous with Vinho Verde and Port, its wine has undergone a revolution in recent years. Sample the fruits of these changing times with Tom Symington, a member of the family's fifth generation, winemaker, and brand manager for Symington Family Estates.
During the evening, Tom will guide you through the Douro Valley (to the north) and the Alentejo (to the south), diving into the culture, soils, climate and grapes of each region. Enjoy a selection of wines that showcases the unfortified styles that are billed as the future of this famous wine producing country.
You'll also enjoy a selection of cheese, charcuterie and other snacks.

About the speaker, Tom Symington
Tom Symington is a 5th generation member of his family to produce wine in Portugal. Tom grew up in the Douro and Porto amongst the vineyards, wineries and Port lodges.
He studied winemaking at Montpelier Sup-Agro and went on to harvest in many regions outside of his home including: Languedoc-Roussillon, Alentejo, Barossa, Tasmania, Mornington Peninsula, Marlborough, Burgundy, and Bordeaux and the UK.
Today, Tom is a winemaker and Senior Brand Manager of his family’s Portfolio of DOC wines and Ports. He has been responsible for development of several key advancements in the region including the design of the Steep Slope Mechanical Harvester, as well as research projects that are tackling the climatic challenges in his region.

Payment in full must be made at the time of booking and places are not confirmed until payment has been received. Unfortunately we cannot take provisional bookings.
Cancellations and transfers
- Cancellations and transfers can be made up to two weeks before the event.
- Cancellations within 10 working days are non-refundable and cannot be transferred to another event.
- If you need to change a name on the booking, please give us as much notice as possible.
- WSET School London reserves the right to cancel an event. If necessary, a full refund or transfer will be offered.
