Explore Georgian winemaking history from the Neolithic to the present with Daria Kholodilina, co-author of 'Georgia: A Guide to the Cradle of Wine'.

Event details

Travel in time with Georgian wine at this tasting hosted by Georgian wine expert Daria Kholodilina. Daria is joining us all the way from Tbilisi and will present eight wines, covering a range of the 525 officially registered Georgian grape varieties: Rkatsiteli, Kakhuri Mtsvane, Tsitska, Tsolikouri, Krakhuna (separately and in blends), Kisi, Aleksandrouli, Mujuretuli and Saperavi.

Daria will trace the evolution of methods, traditions, and styles that have defined Georgian wine through the ages. You will learn the ‘full circle’ story of Georgian wine - from ancient qvevri vessels via monastic winemaking - favourite bottles of noblemen and communist leaders alike - to the modern qvevri wine movement experiencing a renaissance today.

Daria will also discuss her vinologue guidebook Georgia: A Guide to the Cradle of Wine co-written with Miquel Hudin – and a copy is included in your ticket!

Her book has been recommended by The Guardian as one of the best books on drinks and received praise by wine critics across the industry. The book is a great gift for a curious wine drinker and adventurous traveler who wants to visit Georgia and taste wines straight from the source.
