You may have heard the phrase "cult wine", but have you ever tasted one? Join fine wine expert and sommelier Harry Ballmann to discover what makes some wines worthy of cult status and taste eight wines from around the world.

Event details

"Cult wine" is a term used more and more in wine marketing and press. But what is a cult wine? Is it the same as a fine wine? Does it need to be expensive? And is it possible for a producer to create one?

Through a series of exceptional bottles, Harry Ballmann - fine wine consultant and private sommelier - will examine the relationship between fine and cult wines. He'll explore what truly defines a "cult wine," the unique qualities that set them apart, and whether certain wines truly deserve the hallowed label of "cult."

About the presenter, Harry Ballmann

Harry Hallman

Harry found wine through pure ignorance. In his time studying his master’s in Maastricht in the Netherlands, he attended cellar auctions and bought wine on a measly student budget that was often older than him. It was captivating and humbling to know so little about something, he says. Following, he went straight onto the restaurant floor, tasting the world’s best wines as a sommelier at Wiltons, followed by a short stint as Head of Beverage at FOLIE.

Since, Harry has founded Cépage, an online fine wine shop specialising in cellar curation, iconic bottles and private events. He is the private sommelier for a number of high end fashion brands, and also the wine specialist for national retailer Home Bargains. He has been talked about in Seven Fifty Daily, Imbibe and Vogue as a pioneering and dedicated wine professional.
