Join Richard Bampfield MW and Delaney Sheridan from the Sustainable Wine Roundtable for an eye-opening discussion on the future of sustainability in the wine industry, from the vineyard to the bottle.

Event details

Sustainability in wine is more than a buzzword—it’s a complex and global challenge that’s reshaping the industry. But what does sustainability really mean, and how can producers, retailers, and professionals turn their goals into action?

Led by Richard Bampfield MW and Delaney Sheridan from the Sustainable Wine Roundtable, this masterclass will provide you with a deep understanding of how sustainability is being implemented across the wine world, discussing challenges and solutions that are already making a difference. With a guided tasting of wines from SWR member wineries, you’ll see firsthand how sustainable practices are transforming everything from vineyard management to packaging. This session will also highlight why industry-wide collaboration is key to drive real change.

What you’ll learn about:

  • How the industry tries to minimise its environmental footprint, through packaging innovation and carbon reduction
  • The role of sustainability certification
  • Sustainable viticulture in practice
  • Why fair working conditions are a core part of sustainability

About the presenters

Richard Bampfield MW

Richard Bampfield MW

After graduating in French from Cambridge, Richard Bampfield immediately decided the wine trade was where he could put the language to best use. He managed retail wine shops in the North West of England for JW Lees Brewers for 7 years, then spent a year getting his hands dirty in vineyards and cellars around the world, including in California and Australia. Having passed the Master of Wine Exam in 1990, he then managed Australian producer Brown Brothers’ European operations for a decade before setting up his own PR and wine consultancy company.

Principal clients now include Lidl, Albert Bichot, Santa Rita Estates and Château Brown. He is also a partner in Preferabli, the leading personalisation software for the wines and spirits industry. A growing interest in sustainability led to him becoming a founder member of the Sustainable Wine Roundtable.

He regularly guides groups of students and press on visits to Bordeaux and Burgundy, and has been actively involved in the promotion of English wines. He is now probably best known for his work writing tasting notes and evaluating wines for Lidl and was a regular presenter on 67 Pall Mall’s TV channel.

Richard is a past Chairman of the Association of Wine Educators and was the European Champagne Ambassador 2009.

Delaney Sheridan

Delaney Sheridan

Through her work as Operations Manager at the Sustainable Wine Roundtable (SWR), Delaney drives industry-wide collaboration on sustainability challenges in wine, from responsible viticulture and packaging to labour rights and carbon reduction. With a background in economics and environmental studies, she applies data-driven analysis to help wine businesses engage in measurable, impact-driven solutions.
Delaney was one of the youngest candidates to earn the WSET Level 3 certification, which she leveraged to lead educational workshops and tastings aimed at informing the next generation of wine consumers. An active member of the American Association of Wine Economists, she has presented research on expert and consumer ratings in a digital age and continues to conduct research for both AAWE and SWR.
