WSET Asia Pacific Ltd has today launched an initiative to offer wine and spirits education to Hong Kong drinks industry professionals affected by the COVID-19 crisis.
The initiative will offer a minimum of 200 professionals, from any sector of the drinks trade, the opportunity to take an online WSET Level 1 Award in Wines or Level 1 Award in Spirits qualification.
The globally recognised WSET Level 1 Award in Wines or Spirits courses will be delivered over four weeks through WSET’s Online Classroom under the guidance of a dedicated WSET educator. At the end of the course, students will be required to sit an exam. The courses are open to any employee aged 18 or over from the Hong Kong drinks trade who is not currently able to work because of COVID-19 restrictions. Places will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis although evidence of financial hardship will be taken into account. Individuals interested in applying should register their interest here from today, 23rd July 2020. There will be two course start dates available to applicants - 17th August (registration closes 5th August), and 31st August (registration closes 19th August).
Jude Mullins, Managing Director, WSET Asia Pacific Ltd comments, "The Hong Kong drinks industry has been hard hit by COVID-19 and, as an important part of the sector with a charitable mission to provide education and training, we want to play our part in offering support. This initiative will give drinks trade professionals – from bartenders to sales executives to cabin crew - the opportunity to increase their industry knowledge and skills while they are not able to work and will provide a much-needed boost to the sector’s morale.”
WSET Asia Pacific’s initiative has been made possible by the generous support of charitable donations.
