This year Tales of the Cocktail, the New Orleans-based premier cocktail festival, took place 21-24 September - entirely online. Visitors were able to drop by the WSET ‘digital’ booth to experience a world of spirits related content. WSET’s spirits team also hosted a live 30-minute seminar, taking participants on a journey of discovery into the world of spirits education.
As well as (virtually) meeting members of the WSET team and finding out about WSET’s suite of spirits qualifications, attendees also had the opportunity to listen to WSET’s new spirits podcast – Spirits Distilled. Over the course of six episodes, Spirits Distilled will keep you informed and entertained, sharing WSET’s expertise about everything distilled - from alcoholic fermentation to flavour additions, as well as tips and techniques to improve your tasting skills using WSET’s Systematic Approach to Tasting spirits.
In the first episode, WSET's Charlie McCarthy, Business Development Manager – Spirits, chats with Elayne Duff of "Duff on the Rocks" and Dawn Davies MW of Speciality Drinks, discussing how their career experiences have shaped the way they assess and judge spirits. In addition, Russell Burgess, Managing Director of Wet & Dry, shares his three ‘Desert Island Drinks’, and Richard Paterson, Master Blender at Whyte & Mackay, addresses his "Letter To My Younger Self".
Next month WSET will be taking part in the BCB Pouring Digital 'BCB Barweek'. WSET is Bar Convent’s official Education Partner and will be delivering an online programme of tastings for its digital edition.
